2012

this will be a great year!

i cannot believe that we have completed two years of classes. wow!! the first year, the layouts were thematic. {you can view them all here} last year i did my best to focus on one major technique each month. {i will show these on the next post}

this year i thought it would be fun to base the layouts on sketches. the first month will be a direct interpretation of the sketch. as we work through the year, i'll share more interpretations of sketches. such as using colours in combination with sketches or taking a card sketch as the starting point to a double page layout. along with my instructions, i'll include the sketch as an extra. i will continue to focus on a technique or two in my layouts as well. just because it is fun. at least for me it is fun! ha!!

to start off my third year of YEAR IN REVIEW classes....

here is the sketch. i thought it was a good idea to start with one of the most well-known sketch websites. Page Maps by Becky Fleck are organized by month and by sketch type. they are very easy to navigate. you can also view a sample page beside each sketch, which many people appreciate. this one is the 12x12 double page sketch from March 2011. if you love Beckys' style then you will love that she has TWO books available that are based on sketches as well as a calendar for 2012. Urban Scrapbook also gives away copies of Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine when they are available. {the magazine is also available online}Page Maps is one of the sponsors to this publication, and you have likely seen some of them in print.

and here is my interpretation......

Photobucket

you can see that i changed my background to patterned paper. it is so beautiful, why not use more of it?!! i swapped the pattern and plain papers from the sketch.

the decorative edges were changed to snowflake flurry edges. the flowers were also changed to snowmen, snowflakes and pine cones. but they were kept in the same spot.

i did change the title and journaling somewhat.

i also interpreted the stitching differently.

other than that it is a perfect match, isn't it?! ha!!

Photobucket

i was really inspired by the lace and pine cones on the Winter Woods/Winter Wishful paper. in all irony i used the least of it.

i love the Confetti Garland that is part of the product list. seriously cute! and so popular right now.

i also loved how one of the Little Yellow Bicycle products from their Wonder and Wishes line had bakers' twine wrapped around little wooden spools and mini pom-poms packaged in a mini-vial. it was not part of this product line, so i had to create my own!

Photobucket

vellum is one of my favourite go-to papers. i love that it is subtle and perfect for layering. and old technique that still looks great today.

Photobucket

i added the toque and mittens to the already cute snowman. one of the Biker Chicks swapped an "o" in
'snow' for a cute pre-made button embellishment....loved that idea and had to try my own take on her idea. i used the snowflake!

Photobucket

my most recent favourite-est die is the Tim Holtz Tattered PineCone. for some of the ladies this will be a duplicate technique. but i just couldn't no use 3-D pinecones in this layout!!

as for technique....}i wouldn't qualify the 3-D pinecones as the main technique.....although they will be considered a new technique to those who have not made one}... how about using materials and products to accentuate snow and snowflakes? some are obvious. some you will just have to learn in class!

i am going to try to include a list of the major supplies i used along with my photos each month. all are available at Urban Scrapbook. which you can purchase at the store or online.
